Update 2.4: The Release Date
Yass, we finally have a date for the launch of the Update 2.4 Elite: Dangerous – Tuesday, September 26, The Return!
For the occasion, Edward Lewis and Sandro Sammarco offered us a short livestream in order to answer some of the players’ questions and remind us about the Thargoids Events we had in-game since the game released. We also got a surprise trailer, which I’m sure you’ll love! I was in awe in front of the story they unfolded and what’s to come for the humanity. Behave well and don’t shoot the Thargoids! 😉

Some information that we collected during the live:
- The release of the update 2.4 The Return is scheduled for Tuesday 26 September.
- Repair Drones, 20.000 LY route plotting, New Synthesis recipes, Pilots’ Federation Bounties, Improved Inbox, …
- Arms Race, human side. The Thargoids know everything about us and our weaknesses now that they have been studying us for years. We have everything to learn about them.
- 2.4 will not only be about combat against the Thargoids. Other alternatives will be available as the story develops: all the 2.4’s content will not be available on D-Day, it will be unveiled gradually.
- The Keelback will surely have an additional seat for the Multicrew.
- The Frontier Expo, on October 7th, will show off a lot of things! Apparently an overhaul of the Engineers system is being prepared, particularly to reduce its randomness.
- New weapons, new modules are to be expected.
- The Panther Clipper is not the Type 10 Defender, it is really cool. Nothing to add
- The Thargons, Thargoids’ drones, are confirmed.
- There are several types of Thargoids vessels. We have spotted the Thargoid interceptor “Cyclop”. It bears the symbol of the barnacles.

- [Powerplay] As Powerplay features consensual, player-versus-player interactions, this will provide exemption from Pilot’s Federation bounties and the ship rebuy penalty when entering into legitimate Powerplay PVP combat when 2.4 arrives. To ensure a smooth transition, we are going to un-pledge any Commander that has not participated in Powerplay on or around the launch of 2.4. Any Commander with zero merits at this time will be un-pledged. If you wish to remain pledged, all you have to do is earn a single merit by this date. – Source – Dale Emasiri, Community Manager

- Deep Space Network are organizing an expedition, the DSN Luxury Tour! A circuit of 21 asteroid bases located on the periphery of the human bubble is to be made using only Saud Krüger luxury vessels (Dolphin, Orca or Beluga). 44.000 LY to travel through 36 nebulae, 15 planetary nebulae and 1 mega-ship. The departure is scheduled for this October 22nd while the return will be around December 17th.

Powerplay and Lore
Powerplay is an ongoing battle for interstellar conquest and control. Players can choose a Power, help guide their strategy, and take on special objectives to advance their shared cause. Player choices and actions have a direct and visible impact on the balance of galactic power.

◘ 14 September – A spokesperson for the Kamadhenu Chapterhouse of Inquisition has announced that its plan to establish a series of starports between Colonia and the core systems has received the wholehearted support of the galactic community. Hundreds of pilots took to their ships to deliver construction materials to Shajn Market over the course of the three-week campaign, allowing the Chapterhouse to achieve its ambitious goals.
As the campaign drew to a close, a spokesperson for the Chapterhouse released a statement:
“Thanks to the hard work of the galaxy’s independent pilots, construction of the first starport is almost complete, work on the second is well underway and construction of the third will begin soon. We are immeasurably grateful to those who supported this initiative, and we look forward to a future of increased travel and trade between Colonia and the core.”
◘ 15 September – Over the past few months, several reports have surfaced of Federal convoys coming under fire in the Maia system. While circumstantial evidence strongly suggested Thargoid involvement, the Federation declined to comment, saying only that the matter was “under investigation”. But fresh reports indicate that another attack, resulting in the loss of a Farragut-class Battlecruiser and a number of other vessels, has recently taken place. In a galaxy-wide announcement, the Federation confirmed that the attack was perpetrated by Thargoid Interceptor-class vessels, as corroborated by those who survived the assault.
Chief of Federal Security Admiral Aden Tanner issued the following statement:
“Since we cannot communicate with the Thargoids, and cannot therefore determine the motive for this attack, it cannot be considered an act of war in the conventional sense. Nevertheless, I can confirm that the Thargoids are now considered an enemy of the Federation.”
Admiral Tanner’s statement was swiftly followed by a public address from Federal President Zachary Hudson, speaking from the White House on Mars.
“Like many others, I hoped that the Thargoids would prove to be peaceful. Today I am forced to concede that my optimism was misplaced. What I say now, I say to every citizen of the Federation: Action will be taken. I have given Admiral Tanner total authority over this matter, and extended to him the full resources of the Federal Navy. I have every confidence that he will address this threat to the Federation.”

Both sides have issued calls for aid, appealing to independent combat pilots for support. Commanders who participate in the conflict will be generously rewarded by their chosen faction. A representative of system security forces issued the following statement: “It would be irresponsible of us to encourage independent pilots to join this fight, but if the galactic community can bring this conflict to a swift end, they will have our gratitude.”
